Contribute picturesWestover Fishery covers 2.3 miles of the River Anton — one of the four substantial tributaries of the River Test in Hampshire — flowing south through the villages of Upper Clatford and Goodworth Clatford before joining the Test at Chilbolton. The fishing runs across four varied beats, from wide shallow sections to deep narrow cuts running through old water meadows, with day tickets available through Westover Farm Partnership. Clear water rising from the chalk aquifer supports rich weed growth and a wide variety of insect life, and during spring and summer the trout feed on floating insects hatching throughout the day, making it well suited to the dry-fly angler. The Anton at Westover is stocked with brown trout reared locally at the Houghton Club, and the river also holds wild brown trout up to 3lb. The Anton is also noted as possibly the best of the chalk streams for large grayling, with 2lb fish almost commonplace. Situated just two miles from Andover in Hampshire, the fishery can be reached from central London in just over an hour and a quarter by car, or by train to Andover station.
