About Ribblesdale Angling Association
Ribblesdale Angling Association is a fly fishing club for the Ribble Valley, with about 110 members. It fishes mainly on the Ribble, Hodder and Calder, for salmon, sea trout, wild brown trout and grayling, with some coarse fishing on specific beats and at certain times of year. Its Lancashire water is three miles of the Ribble near Clitheroe from Low Moor up to West Bradford, one bank at Grindleton and Sawley, the Ribble and Calder at Hacking Hall with the Calder Foot pool, and about a mile of the Hodder upstream of Higher Hodder Bridge. It also has water at Nappa on the Ribble above Gisburn, which is not listed here, exchange arrangements with other clubs, and concessions at two local stillwaters.
The association has a rule that only one salmon a season may be taken, and encourages all members to return every salmon. No more than two trout may be taken a day, and trout under 10 inches go back. The club does not sell day tickets. Each member may bring one guest a season, and members can take young relatives under 18 fishing.
Membership is by waiting list. The annual subscription is £270, which can be paid in eight monthly instalments, and new members also pay a joining fee of £150 in full. The association says there are normally a number of places each year, and that the Membership Secretary can tell you where the list stands: Ian Dawson, iandawson@live.co.uk. To apply, use the application link on the association’s website, which puts you on the waiting list.
How fishing here works
- Waiting list
- Membership is capped. New members join a queue, which can run to several years depending on the club.
- Guest tickets
- A member can bring a guest fishing, usually capped at a set number of days a season.
- Exchange ticket
- A reciprocal arrangement with another club: members of each can fish the other's water on production of their own club card.
