Fly Odyssey Chalkstream offers fly fishing across the River Test, Itchen, and more chalkstreams, with days available for single anglers, groups and corporate bookings, alongside casting tuition and guided days for all levels of experience — from manicured beats on private estates to classic water meadow and small wild streams holding brown trout. Beginners benefit from having a guide on hand to develop presentation skills and an understanding of trout behaviour and fly selection, while seasoned anglers can use guided days to refine advanced casting technique and learn how to approach more difficult fish. The business is led by Gilly Bate, a qualified casting instructor with 20 years' experience, and instructors hold AAPGAI and GAIA qualifications, with full insurance, first-aid certificates and DBS checks. Casting tuition covers single-handed, double-handed and saltwater disciplines, and sessions also cover entomology, fly selection, watercraft and understanding trout habitat.

Hookafly is a Test Valley based fishing agent run by Rollo Grandy and Jemima Grandy, with guide Fred Watson, offering guided and unguided days across the southern chalk streams. Beats range from the Test at Houghton Lodge, Bossington, Broadlands and the Wherwell Estate to the Itchen at The Grange Estate and the Lower Itchen Fishery, the Kennet at Barton Court and Avington, and the Frome in Dorset at West Stafford. The company also holds a number of private estates kept off its website, and the team brings long experience guiding these rivers. Days can be guided or unguided, with tuition available including lake lessons for beginners, plus corporate and group bookings, equipment on request, and riverbank lunches or hampers arranged on some estates. Winter brings grayling and pike fishing, and there is salmon fishing on the Lower Itchen, Test and Avon from June to the end of September. Orvis is a fly fishing retailer with its UK base in Andover and a shop on Stockbridge High Street, a few minutes from the Test. It also lets three chalk stream beats by the day: Kimbridge 'Ginger Beer' and Timsbury T5 on the Test, and Abbots Worthy on the Itchen. You can take a single rod or book the whole beat. Kimbridge is about a third of a mile with shallows to fish over and a pool at the top, and takes four rods a day. Individual rods start at £195 in the trout season, or £640 for the beat. Timsbury T5 is just under half a mile of main river plus 370 yards of carrier, which is catch and release. It has a good mayfly and heavy sedge hatches later in the summer, and no wading. Rods from £135, or £476 for the beat. Abbots Worthy is the hardest of the three, a third of a mile on the Itchen that stays clear all year, which makes both the casting and the stalking harder. Rods from £120, or £265 for exclusive use with up to three. Grayling days are cheaper, £79 at Kimbridge and £55 at Abbots Worthy. A guide can be added to an exclusive booking. The teaching side runs alongside it. The introductory Learn to Fly Fish session in the shop is free, stillwater and improver days are £135 and £150, there are river schools on the Test, and one to one tuition with an Orvis guide starts at £475. We Fly Fish is a guiding and coaching outfit whose coaches, the We Fly Fish Pros, are licensed by the Angling Trust. Every day they sell is guided: the price covers your coach, all the tackle and the fishing permit, so there is nothing else to book. On the chalk streams they guide on the Hampshire Avon at Avon Springs in Durrington, the stretch made famous by Frank Sawyer, and on a beat of the upper Test. They also run courses on the lakes at Avon Springs and at Manningford near Pewsey, and a two-day package in Wiltshire with a night at the Dog and Gun in Netheravon. Away from Wessex they teach on stillwaters in Surrey and Sussex, including Albury, Frensham and Bewl Water. Trout are the target through the summer, then grayling and pike once the trout season closes. Aardvark McLeod is a fly fishing travel company arranging tailor made trips in the UK and overseas. The UK side of the business centres on the southern chalk streams, with days on the Test at Broadlands, the Wherwell Estate and Testcombe, the Kennet at Barton Court, the Nadder at Compton Chamberlayne, and on the Itchen, Avon, Frome, Dever, Lambourn and Anton. South West Lakes Trust is a charity that manages a portfolio of nearly fifty lakes and other sites across Devon and Cornwall, and is a member of the Angling Trust. In 2014 its fisheries hosted the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships, won by Scotland ahead of England. Five of its Devon reservoirs sell day tickets for stocked trout fishing: Kennick and Burrator for rainbow and wild brown trout, and Fernworthy, Wistlandpound and Roadford Lake for brown trout, wild and stocked. Day, evening, half day and season tickets are sold online or by phone, and under eighteens fish free alongside a paying adult. A multi-water Castabout season permit covers Fernworthy, Roadford, Wistlandpound and Colliford in Cornwall together, and an All Waters season permit covers every stocked trout water the Trust runs. Season ticket holders also get a discount at two local tackle shops and at the Roadford Lake Cafe, and free parking at every lake for the life of their permit. Boats are available directly at Roadford, and at Kennick and Burrator through the independent fly fishing clubs based there. An Environment Agency rod licence is required on every water.

The Fishing Passport is an online booking system run on a not for profit basis by the Wye and Usk Foundation. Fisheries all over the UK use it to take day tickets, season tickets, club member and even private bookings, and it covers salmon, sea trout, trout, grayling and coarse fishing across Wales and the Marches. The Passport doesn’t own or lease any water: each fishery stays in the hands of its owner. Its Wild Streams are small wild brown trout waters, from mountain streams a few feet wide to medium sized rivers, where the Passport says an 8 foot 3 or 4 weight is the biggest rod you will need. They are booked ahead, online or by phone, with no booking fee online, and bookings for a day close at 6pm the day before. Any Wild Stream beat that hasn’t been booked is open to holders of a Wild Stream Season Permit, which for 2026 costs £100 for one rod or £140 for two. The Westcountry Angling Passport is a pay as you fish scheme run by the Westcountry Rivers Trust across Devon and Cornwall. It is now delivered through the Fish Pass app and website: choose a beat, buy tokens, fish, and submit a catch return when you finish. The scheme lists 38 token beats for wild brown trout, sea trout, salmon, grayling and coarse fish, along with the Duchy of Cornwall’s Dartmoor Fishery on the East and West Dart and their tributaries. Tokens can also be used at South West Lakes Trust fisheries and on most other passport schemes around the UK. The money goes to landowners for looking after the water, which the Trust describes as payment for an ecosystem service.
