Fly Fishing Guides and Casting Instructors

A good guide is the quickest way to get more out of a day, whether that's a first casting lesson on a lake or a morning on a river you've never fished. Everyone listed here works independently. Each page says what they teach, where they work, what they charge, and whether the fishing itself is in the price.

Guiding or tuition?

Tuition is about you: casting, reading water, tying on a fly, usually on a lake or a stretch of grass where there's room to get it wrong. Guiding is about the fish: someone who knows the water takes you to where they're feeding and helps you catch them. Most guides do both, and a first day often mixes the two.

Is the fishing in the price?

Check this before comparing prices. Some guides include the rod on the water, some expect you to buy the day ticket yourself, and on some rivers that can be the larger part of the bill. Every rate on these pages says which it is.

Qualifications

Instructors can qualify through GAIA, AAPGAI, Fly Fishers International or the Angling Trust. A qualification only shows here once we've checked it against that body's register, and "Insured" only once we've seen the cover. A guide without a badge isn't necessarily unqualified, we just haven't confirmed it yet.
