About Ribble Rivers Trust
Ribble Rivers Trust is a registered charity based in Clitheroe, Lancashire, working on the River Ribble and the becks, brooks and rivers that feed it. Its Angling Passport scheme sells online tokens for a set of beats in the Ribble catchment: Bashall Brook, Bottoms Beck, Colne Water, the River Loud and a stretch of the Ribble and Calder at Mitton. The Trust says that the money goes straight back into improving the river, and describes the scheme as costing just a few pounds.
A token is bought online, is valid for 14 days from purchase and can be used once, and nobody needs to be contacted before fishing. Every beat is catch and release. The beats are natural river water, not stocked and without platforms, and the paths to them can be narrow, uneven or overgrown, with livestock about, so the Trust asks anglers to take care and wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid. A valid Environment Agency rod licence is required, and the Trust asks for a catch return to be submitted online after fishing. Fish are returned and dogs are not allowed on the beats.
