About Ross-on-Wye Angling Club
Ross-on-Wye Angling Club was founded in 1912. It has about five miles of the River Wye in Herefordshire, above and below the town of Ross-on-Wye, on the estate of the Duchy of Cornwall, with 30 named salmon pools. The club says its water suits both spinning and fly, and it is best known as a spring salmon fishery. Its other waters are coarse fishing.
This is members’ water. Salmon fishing is for members of the club’s salmon section, who pay a salmon permit on top of their club membership. The salmon section is capped by the committee and the club keeps a waiting list. It says prospective members stand a good chance of acceptance in the year of their first application. A member can bring a guest for salmon on a £30 guest permit, up to three times a season. The club’s day tickets are for coarse fishing on its Town Water only, so there is no day ticket for salmon or other game fishing.
The club’s membership page lists a joining fee of £25 for new members, a salmon permit of £125 for local members or £135 for members from elsewhere, and club membership of £80 or £90, with lower rates for seniors. The salmon season on the Wye runs from 3 March to 17 October.
To ask about joining the salmon section, email Trevor Hyde at barbarian18@live.co.uk or phone him on 01531 822889 or 07468 560845. For general club business the club gives the Secretary’s address, secretary.rossac@gmail.com, and applications for coarse membership go to the Membership Secretary at rossmembership@googlemail.com.
