About Hereford & District Angling Association
Hereford & District Angling Association is a river club founded in 1921, based on the River Wye in Hereford. It holds fishing rights on the Wye from Breinton to Fownhope, with some breaks, and on the River Lugg from Sutton St Nicholas to Tidnor, with some breaks. The club says it controls over 15 miles of river, much of it double bank. It describes itself as a mixed club: its Wye water is best known for coarse fishing, and the game fishing is salmon on the Wye and trout and grayling on both rivers.
The club’s seasons are 3 March to 17 October for salmon and 17 March to 8 October for trout. All its waters are catch and release for salmon, trout fishing is fly only with every trout returned, and the club has a zero kill policy for fish of any species. Rods are limited to two.
Membership is open to anglers who apply, at the committee’s discretion. A full member lives in Herefordshire with an HR postcode, and an associate member lives elsewhere. For 2026 the club lists full or associate membership for salmon, trout and coarse at £100, and for trout and coarse at £65, with reductions for registered disabled members and a junior rate at £20. Adult applications are made on the club’s form, by post.
Visitors can buy a day ticket for the running waters, for salmon or for trout and coarse. Tickets are sold by Woody’s Angling Centre and Rock’s Angling in Hereford, Docklow Tackle in Leominster and Alan’s Fishing Tackle in Worcester, and must be bought before fishing because they are not sold on the bank. The club’s day ticket page lists the prices. The ticket covers sunrise to sunset, and tickets are not sold for the club’s pools or for certain sections of the river. Membership enquiries go to the Membership Secretary at hdaa@sky.com.
