About Pinsley Brook
Pinsley Brook is a small tributary of the River Lugg, flowing through the rolling countryside of north Herefordshire. The Passport says it has many of the characteristics of a southern chalk stream and, although very small in places, a very healthy population of trout. Early in the season is the best time to fish it, before the bankside vegetation is at its thickest. Later the channel narrows to less than a metre through much of its length, which makes it a real challenge for accurate casters.
The beat is fenced along its whole length without stiles, so anglers wade up the stream and need to keep to the channel, except to reach the public footpath that runs along the whole length of the beat. The Passport suggests a rod of six to seven feet rated 1 to 3 weight.
It is fly only, all species are catch and release, and dogs are not allowed. It is a Wild Stream beat: it is booked through the Fishing Passport, or fished on a Wild Stream Season Permit.
