About Leconfield Fly Fishing Club
Leconfield Fly Fishing Club is a private members’ club formed in 1970, run in partnership with the Leconfield Estate at Petworth. Its members fish three miles of the Western Rother, with wild brown trout and a run of sea trout, and several lakes, stocked mostly with rainbow trout and in two cases with brown trout. The estate says the water is in parts of the 14,000 acre Leconfield Estate that the public cannot get into, and that it is lightly fished, with the river or a lake often to yourself in midweek. The club has about 100 members and a full time keeper.
Membership is for a full season and covers all the lakes and the river with no limit on the number of days. New members are welcome to join throughout the season. To join, contact the Estate Office and ask for an application form; the club’s rules say every candidate is proposed by a member and approved by the committee. Prospective members are invited to take a free guided tour of the lakes and river with the keeper, or to spend a day as a member’s guest, and the club runs bring a new member days with a barbecue lunch.
All fishing is fly only.
