About River Lune, Caton day ticket beat
This is the Caton day ticket beat on the River Lune, which Lancaster & District Angling Association sells to visitors on weekdays. The association publishes a map showing the upper and lower limits of the beat, which follows a loop of the river near Caton and the Crook o’Lune, and names eight salmon pools: Barn Stream, Railway Bank, Masons, Lower Masons, Haystacks, Deeps, Fence End and Scots Wife.
It is a salmon, sea trout and brown trout water, and every salmon caught must be returned alive. Spinning and worm fishing are only allowed when the river is above 1 ft 6 in on the Caton gauge, anglers worming for salmon must use circle hooks, an unhooking device must be carried, and prawn and shrimp are banned. The association asks anglers to check the river level before booking.
A day ticket costs £20 from 1 February to 31 August and £30 from 1 September to 31 October. Tickets are only sold for weekdays, are booked online through the association’s page, and run from 8am to 10pm on the day of purchase.
