About Skerton Beat
Skerton Beat is on both banks of the River Lune at Skerton, Lancaster, from the marker post in the tidal area below Carlisle Bridge upstream to Howe Ghyll Beck. There are six rods available daily to salmon and trout anglers.
The area below Skerton Weir is tidal and has some excellent fly water. Between the black and white and the red and white marker posts below the weir it is fly only. No fishing is allowed between the black and white marker posts and the weir, including standing above the marker posts to fish or fishing from the weir itself. All legal methods are allowed on other areas of the beat, and coarse angling is allowed above Skerton Weir. Parking is on the riverside roads opposite the Kingsway centre and Lansil Industrial Estate.
The beat is owned by the Environment Agency and managed by Lune Rivers Trust, which receives the fees from permits for it, apart from a small admin fee for the online booking platform. Permits are booked by the day through the Trust’s iBookfishing calendar.
