About Barcombe Mills pool and streams, sea trout
This is the mill pool and surrounding streams at Barcombe Mills, the part of Ouse Angling Preservation Society’s water inside the circuit of roads made by the main Barcombe Mills road, where the road bridge is, and the Old Toll Road to the north, which overlooks the pool. The society reserves all of it for sea trout fishing only from 1 May to 31 October.
To fish it in that period you need the society’s annual sea trout permit and a pool permit valid for the day. Pool permits are only sold to sea trout permit holders, are not available on the bank, and must be booked in advance. A pool permit costs £20 per rod per day and runs for 24 hours from midnight to midnight, for a maximum of two rods a day. The society’s availability page shows which dates are taken, and you reserve by phone with the permit secretary, then pay by bank transfer. Reservations are held for up to five days and are first come, first served.
Night fishing is allowed on the Mill Pool for sea trout on a pool permit, and not elsewhere on the society’s water. When water is low the House stream can be stopped for a while to protect the sea trout gathered there. From 1 November to 14 March the same water is open to the society’s coarse permit holders at no extra charge.
