About Powdermill Reservoir
Powdermill is a 56 acre Southern Water reservoir about a mile north east of Sedlescombe, on the border of East Sussex and Kent, surrounded by dense woodland. Hastings Fly Fishers Club has leased the fishing since 1932 and calls it the most beautiful water in the south east. The deepest water is off the valve tower, at thirty five feet.
The club stocks rainbow trout at regular intervals, weekly at peak season, from a minimum of 1½lb up to nine pounds with some double figure fish, and the reservoir also holds a good head of wild brown trout that must be returned. It is known for its mayfly hatch from the end of April to early June. Bank fishing is from the dam, the east bank beside the dam, three cut outs in the woods past the east bank and either side of the willow tree on the west bank. You can wade, but only to the depth of thigh waders and never from the dams.
There are fourteen boats, including a Wheelyboat for wheelchair users, and boats can reach all parts of the water. Non-members buy a day ticket: £60 for 6 fish, £80 in peak season for 6 fish, or £40 for a half day and 3 fish, with boats at £10 a day and electric outboards at £5. Book with the club lodge before you come, and fishing starts at 8.30am. All sizeable trout must be kept and brown trout returned. The club does not allow snakes, boobies or lures longer than 3 inches.
