About Arrow Monkland
Arrow Monkland is just over a mile of right bank on the River Arrow, a few miles west of Leominster. The river has a lowland character here, meandering through fields with deep pools on each corner, and you have to wade to fish it. The silt and gravel bed makes that relatively easy. The Passport says the beat is best fished in spring and that getting to the water becomes a challenge from early summer onwards, and suggests a rod of seven to seven and a half feet rated 3 to 4 weight. The Passport’s Wild Streams page says the beat also holds grayling.
It is fly only, up to two trout may be taken per rod, anything under nine inches must be returned, and dogs are not allowed. It is a Wild Stream beat: it is booked through the Fishing Passport, or fished on a Wild Stream Season Permit.
