About Whittern Lyonshall
Whittern Lyonshall is a mile and a half of mixed single and double bank on the River Arrow, a few miles downstream of Kington, with wild brown trout. The Lyonshall (Whittern) beat is in a very secluded part of the river that the Passport says is highly regarded for trout fishing. Getting to the water is straightforward, and the bed is mostly gravel so wading is reasonably easy. The upper sections in Lyonshall Park Wood run more over bedrock and are a little harder underfoot. The Passport suggests a rod of seven to seven and a half feet rated 3 to 4 weight.
It is fly only, all species are catch and release, and dogs are not allowed. It is a Wild Stream beat: it is booked through the Fishing Passport, or fished on a Wild Stream Season Permit.
