About Hergest Court
Hergest Court is just under a mile and a half of double bank on the upper River Arrow, just upstream of Kington. The Passport describes the river here as small stream, ideal for quiet brown trout fishing with a small brook rod of no more than seven and a half feet. It meanders through pastureland and is known for good mayfly hatches. Coppicing and bank revetment work have helped the beat. The bed is mostly gravel and silt, so wading is relatively easy in thigh waders, and the parking is less than 50 metres from the bank.
The Kington Fishing Club keeps the fishing rights, so you may occasionally meet other anglers on the water.
It is fly fishing only for trout, with a limit of two fish (trout and grayling), and no dogs. The trout day ticket costs £19, with up to two tickets a day. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
