About White House
White House is about a mile of left bank on the Wye between Ross-on-Wye and Hereford. The upstream sections are quite deep and slow and the pace quickens further downstream, so salmon anglers get a good variety of fly and spinning water in secluded surroundings. Croys and platforms help in reaching some pools, and where wading is needed the gravel bed makes it relatively easy. The Passport calls the coarse fishing excellent, with barbel and chub, and grayling have been caught on the beat in recent years, with the faster sections giving potential trotting water.
Professional instructors and guides can only work on the fishery with prior permission, so if you are thinking of hiring one, check with the Fishing Passport first. Occasionally an abstraction pump may be running. Canoe traffic can be heavy from 10am to 4pm at weekends in the warmer months, and especially on bank holidays.
All species are catch and release and dogs are allowed if kept under control. A salmon day ticket costs £40, with up to four tickets a day, and a block booking can be made. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
