The Tufton Arms is a small hotel in the market square at Appleby-in-Westmorland, on a loop of the River Eden. It says it has been a fly fishing destination since Victorian times, and it sells fly fishing breaks on the Eden, mainly for wild brown trout, with salmon fishing arranged on request.

A trout break includes a full day on the water with an experienced ghillie, the loan of tackle and bed and breakfast. For the 2026 season the break for two people sharing a room is £495 for two nights, with a full day of guided trout fishing for both. The fishing in that price is the Appleby town water. A ticket for the wider Appleby Anglers water is an extra £20 a person on FishPal, and the hotel can also take guests to other beats on the Eden at that beat’s day ticket price. A salmon break is the same package plus the cost of the salmon fishing, which depends on the beat and the time of year.

Ghillies are available for beginners, with equipment provided, and for anglers who want tuition. The trout season opens on 15 March and the hotel says the salmon season runs from the middle of January. Breaks can be bought as gift vouchers. Ring or email the hotel to book.

Listing details are compiled by FishingBeats and may change or contain mistakes. Some services, such as tuition, ghillies, or accommodation, may only apply to certain packages and not to standard day tickets. Always confirm pricing, fishing details, and what is included directly with the beat before you book. Spotted something wrong? Email hello@fishingbeats.com and we will correct it.
