About Chew Fly Fishing Club
Chew Fly Fishing Club fishes the River Chew close to Bristol, between Pensford and Woollard, for wild brown trout and grayling. It traces its history to 1900, when it was the Publow Angling Club, and has been Chew Fly Fishing Club since 1909. Membership has stayed at around 20 to 35 anglers the whole time.
The club has the fishing to itself on about 1.75km of the Chew below Chew Valley Lake. Members also fish a private stream fed lake, stocked each year with around 130 rainbow trout of 2 to 3lb, which is a good option when the river is high. Members look after the river and lake on working days, some do river fly monitoring, and the club works with the Bristol Avon Rivers Trust.
Membership is £160 a year and covers the river and the lake. Numbers are kept below 30, with a waiting list when the club is full. To ask about joining, use the membership enquiry form on the club’s website.
