About Aberystwyth Angling Association
Aberystwyth Angling Association offers game fishing on the Rheidol and Ystwyth near Aberystwyth and on a group of upland lakes. Its home page describes night fishing for double figure sea trout, or sewin, on 16 miles of the two rivers, and native brown trout fishing on its lakes, where fly, spinner or worm is allowed depending on the lake.
The association’s rules list its water. On the Rheidol it is the river from source to mouth, apart from the stretch between Gyfarllwyd Falls and Dinas Dam and the sanctuary and private sections the rules name. On the Ystwyth it is the south bank from Gosen Bridge to the sea at Harbour Bridge. The lakes are Cwm Rheidol Reservoir, Llygad Rheidol, Oerfa, Craigypistyll, Blaenmelindwr, Rhosgoch, Syfydrin, Frongoch, Rhosrhydd and Glandwgan. This listing shows the Ystwyth water; the Rheidol and the lakes are sold through the Wye and Usk Foundation’s Fishing Passport.
A permit must be bought before fishing and is not sold bankside. Its 2026 season permit is £190 for an adult, £142.50 at the state pension concession and £95 for students and 18 to 21 year olds, with youth permits at £30 and primary school age juniors free. A week permit is £132 for an adult. Day permits are sold through the association’s website and the Fishing Passport. The association says the Rheidol can rise fast and without warning and that wading is dangerous on all its waters.
