Coatenhill Reservoir is the stillwater on the Allen Valley Angling and Conservation permit, near Spartylea in the North Pennines. The club suggests it for when you fancy a change from the river. It is home to many birds, including the odd cormorant, and sits within a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its moorland breeding birds.

Fishing is barbless fly only, for no more than four anglers at a time, and every fish is returned. It is open from 22 March to 31 October. Day permits are sold at the lodge at Coatenhill and at Allendale Post Office, and the same permit covers the river.
