About Horncliffe Fishings Tweed

Horncliffe Fishings Tweed is salmon and sea trout fishing on the English bank of the River Tweed, between Norham and Horncliffe in Northumberland, about six miles inland from Berwick-upon-Tweed. The bank is split into three beats, with fast, shallow water that suits fly fishing and deeper, slower water that suits spinning.

Beat 1 starts below Norham Castle, and the bottom of Beat 3 is just above the top of St Thomas Island near Horncliffe village. The Greenhill fishing hut, a former netting shiel with a stove, gas fires and a barbecue, stands at the bottom of Beat 2, and a boatman can be arranged in advance for a daily fee. The fishery’s own figures for 2018 to 2022 average 128 salmon and grilse and 8 sea trout a year across the three beats.

Rods are booked by the day online through FishPal. The Tweed season runs from 1 February to the end of November, and the fishing follows the River Tweed Commission’s Angling Code.
