Fishing methods
This is the Liskeard & District Angling Club’s water on the West Looe River at Herodsfoot, in south-east Cornwall. The club lists two beats, both numbered 20: Herodsfoot on the right bank and Sowdens Bridge on the left. This listing covers them together.
The club groups the Looe rivers with the Fowey on its Our Waters page and gives that group a salmon season of 1 April to 30 November and a sea trout season of 1 April to 30 September, with conservation limits in force. On the Looe rivers every salmon must be released, whether it is dead or alive. Up to two sea trout may be taken in 24 hours, four in a week and ten in a season. Sea trout under 35cm and over 55cm go back.
Fly, spinning and bait are all allowed, with the limits set out in the rules. Members fish on their membership, and visitors can buy a day or week ticket on the club’s website.
