About The Arle Syndicate

The Arle Syndicate fishes the River Arle, a classic chalk stream and one of the Itchen’s major tributaries, near Old Alresford in Hampshire. The water runs to about 1.2km spread over two beats, Keeper’s and Upper Eel House, and is fished double bank except on the right bank of Upper Eel House. Nothing here is stocked or fed; every fish is wild, and the beats hold good numbers of large grayling alongside the trout.

Fishing is fly only, with barbless hooks to a maximum size of 12, and everything caught goes back. The trout season runs from mid-April to mid-September, and grayling fishing follows on from the end of that season through to the first week of December. Members can fish any day of the week except Monday, from dawn to dusk, and may bring one guest per day provided they fish together and the member stays with them.

This is a small private syndicate rather than an open club, and there are no day tickets. Anyone wanting to know more about joining is asked to contact the Syndicate Manager, Pete Korniczky, directly. Full details, including the fishing rules and the syndicate’s approach to managing the river naturally, are on arlefishing.com.
