About Crediton Fly Fishing Club
Crediton Fly Fishing Club fishes seven small, rain-fed rivers in and around Crediton in Devon: the Creedy, Yeo and Culvery near the town, the Culm near Tiverton, a leased stretch of the Taw at Tawbridge, the Lapford Yeo at Lapford, and a lower stretch of the Creedy. Between the named waters the club states six miles on the Creedy, Yeo and Culvery, three miles on the Culm and one and a half miles on the Taw, plus the more recently acquired Lapford Yeo water, which is not yet given a mileage of its own.
Every river is wild. The club has run a no-stocking policy for more than 28 years, and electro-fishing surveys carried out with the Environment Agency found the annual catch is a small share of the total trout population, with catch and return running above 95 percent. Fishing is by dry fly and upstream nymph, with traditional wet fly allowed as long as the angler works upstream, and the club recommends barbless or de-barbed hooks; it is a founder member of the Wild Trout Trust. Wading is usually needed, and chest waders are worth having for a full season. The season runs from 15 March to 30 September, and the Taw system and the Lower Creedy also hold sea trout and the occasional salmon alongside brown trout to 19 inches on the Culm.
Membership for the 2026 season costs £95, £75 for members over 65 and £15 for under-18s, with a £35 joining fee for new members. Membership is capped at 100, but the club says most seasons leave vacancies, so it is worth asking rather than assuming the door is shut. Visitors can buy a day ticket for £15 or a Saturday-to-Sunday weekend ticket for £30, and that fee is deducted from the first season’s subscription for anyone who goes on to join. Contact the Membership Secretary or Hon Secretary through the club’s website for current availability.
