About Derby Railway Angling Club

Derby Railway Angling Club was founded in 1895 and holds four sections of the River Dove between Tutbury and Ellastone. On a river where most club water carries a waiting list running into years, DRAC is one of very few still open to new members, which is the main reason it is worth knowing about.

Membership runs annually from 16 June and is applied for online. Associate Trout and Coarse costs £95, or £75 concessionary, and that is the tier to take for the fly fishing: the cheaper Associate Coarse membership at £70, or £55 concessionary, does not cover the Dove at Ellastone. A one-off £20 joining fee applies either way, and a car park key is £12. Night fishing at Tutbury and Scropton needs a separate £20 permit. There are no day tickets on any DRAC water.

The four sections cover a real spread of the river. Tutbury and Scropton are the barbel and chub water, Eaton Dovedale holds the best of the fly fishing, and Ellastone is a small, tightly booked stretch on the Staffordshire bank.
