About Esthwaite Water Fisheries

Esthwaite Water Fisheries runs the fishing on Esthwaite Water, a lake of about 280 acres between Hawkshead, Windermere and Coniston in the Lake District National Park. The trout fishing is from the bank or from a boat, with fly, spinner or worm all allowed, and every trout is released. The lake is stocked with brown trout, and the fishery describes it as the only traditional loch style boat trout fishery in the national park.

The trout season runs from 15 March to 30 September. An adult day permit is £25, a half day £20 and a season permit £350, with junior permits at £15 and £10. Boats are £30 for a full day and £20 for a half day or evening. You can turn up and buy a permit on the day, or phone ahead to check availability. Fly fishing tuition is available with qualified instructors; call for rates and dates.

On site there is a tackle shop, toilets and the Boathouse Café, with pegs close to the car park. The same operator also runs Greenhow’s Tarn, a 4.5 acre fly only trout water in the Graythwaite Estate woods. Esthwaite Water also has coarse and pike fishing, which is not covered here.
