Double bank

Grampound is 500 metres of right bank on the Fal at Grampound. Most of the beat was straightened and altered long ago to make room for the road and the village, so in moderate to low water the river meanders through a stone walled channel, making long riffles, glides and pools over gravel and bedrock. That gives good chances of brown trout and daytime sea trout on the fly.

The Passport advises wading, because the banks are high and there is little chance of fishing effectively from them. A public path runs the whole length of the beat and is well used by walkers, so there are a few places to get into and out of the river, the easiest being at the very top and bottom. In a spate the channel becomes difficult and hazardous to fish, with unstable banks, and the Passport strongly advises against fishing it then.

Fly only, and all fish are returned. Dogs are allowed if kept on a lead and under control. A day costs 2 Fish Pass tokens, booked through the Westcountry Angling Passport.
