Double bank

Kingscombe is 800 metres of right bank on a productive and beautiful section of the River Inny. It has seven pools mixed with glides and riffles, and the Passport says it offers fly anglers some of the best brown trout and grayling fishing in the West Country.

The bottom of the beat is tree lined with some open sections, where you can cast from the bank in several places, though wading lets you cover the water more thoroughly. The middle section is tree lined with a steep right bank, and wading upstream is the best way to cover it. The upper section is also tree lined, but the old floodplain makes it easier to get into and along the river, and again wading opens up the most water. Any fly set up from a 0 to 5 weight, 5 to 10 foot rod will do. The river is a 15 to 20 minute walk, about 700 metres, from where you leave the car.

Fly only, with barbless single hooks, and all species are returned. Brown trout and sea trout season runs from 15 March to 30 September, and grayling season from 1 to 14 March and again from 15 June to 31 October. A day costs 4 Fish Pass tokens, booked through the Westcountry Angling Passport.
