East Tuddenham Lakes are the two trout lakes run by Norfolk and Suffolk Flyfishers’ Society at East Tuddenham, near Dereham. The lakes are spring fed and cover about six acres between them, with deeper water at the dam end of the lower lake. They are stocked every few weeks with rainbow trout of at least 1lb 4oz, a sprinkling of bigger fish and a few brown trout from time to time, and most of the fish are plate size, about a pound and a half.

Non-members are always welcome. A day permit is £30 for up to three trout, with no catch and release, and you can turn up and pay at the lakes or book online ahead. The lakes are open every day of the year. Regulars tend to fish floating lines with small imitative patterns, pheasant tail and sedge patterns among them, and lures and dry flies both have their place.

Single fly only, and no wading because the edges are deep. Everyone over 12 needs a current rod licence. Well-behaved dogs are allowed. Spectators are welcome, but rods cannot be shared.

Stocking and fish species

moderate stocking · Stocked every few weeks, depending on the previous week’s catch rates, with rainbow trout of at least 1lb 4oz, a sprinkling of larger fish and a few brown trout from time to time.
