Double bank

Tregeagle is about 600 metres of right bank on the Tresillian River, just above the tide. It holds a good head of wild brown trout, and sea trout run from late April onwards.

The beat is not wide and the bank is thick with plant growth, so the fishing is tight and close range. The Passport suggests a 6 to 8 foot 6 rod rated 1 to 5 weight, with roll, bow and arrow and side casts to place the fly. A single nymph or dry fly, or a pair of the two fished upstream, is usually the best approach, and some runs suit a wet fly swung downstream. Sea trout are best fished for in the evening, particularly in the well oxygenated heads of pools.

Fly, spinner and worm are all allowed. A size 2 Mepps works well, especially after a summer spate, and the section above the weir and the pool below it are generally the most productive. The Passport says the beat is lightly fished, and a little more popular with fly anglers looking for wild browns. A day costs 2 Fish Pass tokens, booked through the Westcountry Angling Passport.
