Woodland Valley is a small fishery in mid Cornwall set inside an enclosure where beavers live. It has about 100 metres of a small tributary of the Tresillian River and two lakes of about one acre between them, and the beavers have felled trees and dammed streams so that the water keeps changing.

The stream is gin clear and holds a surprising number of wild brown trout, some close to 11 inches. It is worth fishing at any time, especially after a day or two of rain. The first lake is surrounded by marsh, so waders and a wading staff are advised, and the fishing is short, accurate casting around fallen trees, reeds and pondweed for wild brown trout and the odd rudd. The second, larger lake has a path along the right bank and some marshy ground on the left, and it suits prospecting the open water or stalking larger fish in the clear water. Earlier surveys turned up wild brown trout close to 2lb.

This is a booking only beat, fly only, and all fish are returned. Dogs are allowed on a lead, and the enclosure gate must be closed behind you. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings the enclosure is used for beaver watching, so anglers leave by 5pm on those days. A day costs 7 Fish Pass tokens, booked in advance through the Westcountry Angling Passport.
