About Barnsley Trout Club

Barnsley Trout Club was founded in 1958 and has run the trout fishing on Scout Dike Reservoir near Penistone, South Yorkshire, ever since. The club has around 300 members, who fish mostly with the fly, though spinning and bait fishing are also allowed, which sets the club apart from most UK trout fisheries.

Membership is popular enough that there is a waiting list, typically running from twelve months to three years, and renewals happen each year between January and March. Anyone not ready to wait can still fish the reservoir: the club sells a limited number of day tickets to visiting anglers between the 1st of March and the 30th of November, bought at the fishery office on the bankside. Payment is by card only, and a valid Environment Agency rod licence must be shown.

The club is run by a committee of volunteers, with bailiffs on hand at the reservoir to welcome anglers and check catches. Anyone with a question about membership, tickets or the water itself can reach the club by email.
