About Kilnsey Angling Club
Kilnsey Angling Club was founded around 1840 and is one of the older angling clubs in England. It controls about 18 miles of fishing in Upper Wharfedale, on the River Wharfe and the River Skirfare, along with Oughtershaw Beck, Greenfield Beck and Cray Gill. The club fishes mainly with dry and wet fly and nymphs for wild and stocked brown trout, and says wild fish over 3lb are reported every season, though most are smaller.
The water below Kettlewell Bridge is stocked each year and the water above it is not. The club runs a beat system: members and day ticket holders are each given a beat, and visitors choose theirs in the morning at the Café by the Lake in Kilnsey Park Estate. A limited number of day tickets are sold each day through the trout season, from 25 March to 30 September, either online or in person between 9.30 and 10am. Membership costs £600 a year, and enquiries go through the club’s website.
The club is a separate body from the Kilnsey Park Fly Fishery.
