About Thrunton Long Crag Trout Fishery

Thrunton Long Crag is a stillwater trout fishery at Thrunton, near Whittingham and Alnwick in Northumberland, easy to find off the A697 just north of Longframlington. The Blythe family set it up on the site of a former brickworks quarry. The lakes are spring fed and regularly stocked with brown, blue, rainbow and tiger trout.

Long Crag, the larger lake, and Coe Crag are fly only, and the fishery is barbless. There is also a small bait lake for juniors and adults, with disabled parking and tackle for hire, and the fishery has car parking at the water’s edge for disabled anglers. A few float tubes can fish Long Crag if you book first. The fishing lodge looks over the lakes and Thrunton Woods, has a wood burning stove, and serves tea, coffee and bacon sandwiches.

It is open daily from 8.30am, seven days a week all year round, with closing times that change through the year. Tickets are sold by time on the water, as catch and keep or catch and release, and the prices are on the fishery’s own site. Fly-fishing lessons are available from the fishery’s qualified instructors, and Bracken Cottage in the grounds sleeps four. You need an Environment Agency rod licence.
