Chew Fly Fishing Club’s water is about 1.75km of the River Chew between Pensford and Woollard, below Chew Valley Lake and close to Bristol. The club fishes it on its own, for wild brown trout and grayling.

The river is a mix of slower sections and longer runs, deep pools, weirs and faster water, from shallows to pools over two metres deep. Fly life is good, with sedge, caddis, midge and olives, and the summer mayfly hatch brings fish up to the dry fly. Wild brown trout to 2lb are caught through spring and summer, and grayling to 13 inches, mostly in winter. The club finds stealth, a shorter rod and light tackle work best, and wading is encouraged.

It is members’ water. There is parking in the middle section of the river, with a toilet, a changing area and the club’s catch return book.
