About Lower Teign Fishing Association

The Lower Teign Fishing Association controls some twelve miles of salmon, sea trout and brown trout fishing on the lower River Teign, single and double bank, from near Dunsford on the edge of Dartmoor National Park down to below Teign Bridge just outside Newton Abbot. It also has fishing on the River Bovey, which joins the Teign at Junction Pool, and that is for full and associate members only.

The lower Teign is primarily a salmon and sea trout fishery, although many good sized brown trout are caught. For 2021 the association reported a good number of salmon, the largest estimated at over 17lb, and just under 500 sea trout, the largest 7.6lb.

Membership is capped at 65 ordinary members, applicants are proposed and seconded by an existing member, and in 2026 it was full, with a waiting list open by email. Visitors can fish one of three beats on a day ticket, valid from sunrise on the day until sunrise the next morning.
