Fernworthy Reservoir is a seventy eight acre water high on Dartmoor, near Chagford, set among meadows, conifer woodland and open moorland, with Bronze Age hut circles and a submerged clapper bridge nearby. It is a brown trout water only, stocked to an average of ten to twelve inches alongside a good head of wild fish.

Fishing is from the bank only. A day ticket allows up to four fish over ten inches to be taken, or the whole day can be fished catch and release on barbless hooks instead. Traditional dark fly patterns work best here: black gnats, bibios, beetles, hoppers and sedge patterns.

A car park, free to anglers, and toilets sit by the water. Day tickets, evening tickets and season tickets are sold online or by phone through South West Lakes Trust; there is no half day ticket at Fernworthy. A multi-water Castabout season permit also covers Fernworthy alongside Roadford, Wistlandpound and Colliford in Cornwall.

Stocking and fish species

moderate stocking · Brown trout stocked to an average of 10 to 12 inches, alongside a good head of wild fish.
