Freeman’s Marsh Fishery is about one kilometre of the River Dun upstream of Hungerford Marsh, run by the Town and Manor of Hungerford as one of its three syndicates. The river flows through the Freeman’s Marsh Site of Special Scientific Interest, and the fishing is more wild in character, with smaller fish than at Hungerford Marsh but more of them.

Members fish on a nominated day of the week. There are no day tickets, and the trust keeps a waiting list for new members that it reviews every year. Grayling fishing runs until 31 December, with many fish over 2 lb and some over 3 lb.

River

The River Dun is a small chalk stream, about ten miles long, that rises in the parish of Great Bedwyn in Wiltshire and flows north east into Berkshire to join the Kennet at Hungerford. This is not the River Dun that joins the Test in Hampshire. This one is a Kennet tributary, and the two have nothing to do with each…
