Kennick Reservoir is a fifty acre stocked trout water on the eastern edge of Dartmoor National Park, near Christow and about twenty minutes from Exeter. It sits alongside Tottiford and Trenchford reservoirs, though only Kennick carries trout fishing; the other two are a carp syndicate water and a pike fishery.

Rainbow trout are stocked from two to six pounds, and a resident head of wild brown trout grows to eight pounds, though every brown trout caught must be released. Fly fishing only is allowed, and barbless hooks are required for catch and release. The western bank is currently closed because of soft mud, so check before you set out.

The reservoir is fished from the bank or from a boat, with boats hired through the independent Kennick Fly Fishers Association, booking essential. A car park and toilets sit at the Anglers’ Lodge, with nearby accommodation at Kennick Sawmill. Because the banks are narrow and backcasts need room, the reservoir is kept for anglers only; walkers can still enjoy the network of paths around neighbouring Tottiford and Trenchford.

Day tickets, evening tickets, half day tickets and season tickets are all sold online or by phone through South West Lakes Trust.
