Lydlew is a booking only beat on the River Lyd, with about 600 metres of right bank plus 50 yards on the River Lew. The Passport calls it one of the Tamar catchment’s best places for brown trout and grayling, with a mix of pools, riffles and runs across two open fields.

Brown trout of 5 to 15 inches are plentiful and respond to dry fly and duo rigs, with nymphs and streamers better in higher water. Grayling fishing is best from autumn to early spring. Sea trout arrive from June, and salmon fishing picks up from August to mid October. Please keep off pool tails to protect spawning redds.

Fly only and all fish are returned. Book a day on Fish Pass in advance, at 8 tokens a day. The owner has the right to fish the beat, though the Passport says that is very rare.
