Fewston Reservoir is one of two sister waters in the Washburn Valley, between Otley, Harrogate and Skipton, run directly by Yorkshire Water. It covers a hundred and fifty three acres and sits beside Swinsty Reservoir behind a shared dam wall; the fishing office and ticket machine are a short walk away at Swinsty Moor car park.

The reservoir is stocked regularly through the season with rainbow trout averaging a pound and six ounces, the biggest caught here running past fourteen pounds, and also holds wild brown trout, which must always be returned. Only rainbow trout over ten inches may be kept, up to four fish on a day ticket or two on an evening ticket, and barbless hooks are required throughout. Fly fishing only is permitted here.

Fishing is from the bank, with wading allowed to knee level where there is no sign against it. There is no fishing from the dam wall, the pitchings or the spillway. Fewston stays open at weekends through the winter alongside Swinsty, when the two reservoirs are the only ones of the three still fishing.

Stocking and fish species

heavy stocking · Rainbow trout stocked regularly through the season, averaging 1lb 6oz; the largest caught has topped 14lb. Wild brown trout are present too and must always be returned.
