Wistlandpound Reservoir is a forty one acre water on the western edge of Exmoor National Park, near South Molton, built in 1956 among conifer plantations and rolling hills. Small enough to fish in a single session, it holds a resident head of wild brown trout alongside fish grown on from previous stockings, from four inches to four pounds. Rudd are also present.

Dry fly fishing works well here, with an evening rise that draws anglers back again and again; black gnats, hoppers, daddies, klinkhammers, emergers and buzzers all take fish. A single day ticket covers either taking up to two fish or fishing catch and release on barbless hooks for the whole day.

The reservoir is wheelchair friendly, with accessible woodland walks and outdoor activity courses run on site by the Calvert Trust. It is the cheapest of South West Lakes Trust’s Devon trout waters, sold as a day ticket or a season ticket, and is also covered by the multi-water Castabout season permit alongside Fernworthy, Roadford and Colliford in Cornwall.
