About Farmoor Fishery

Farmoor Fishery is Thames Water’s trout fishery on Farmoor Reservoir, Cumnor Road, Oxford. There are two reservoirs to fish. Farmoor 1 is catch and release only, and Farmoor 2 is where you can take trout home, or fish it catch and release too. The trout are blue, brown and rainbow, and Thames Water quotes trout to 18lb.

You can fish from the bank or hire a boat, and there is a Wheely Boat with level boarding for wheelchair users. Thames Water says the fishery is best known for buzzer fishing in spring and summer and dry fly in the warmer months, with lures working all year and the boats coming into their own in winter, when the fish sit deep.

On Farmoor 2 a four fish ticket for the whole day is £34 and a two fish ticket for the last seven hours is £24. A full day of catch and release is £32, or £25 for a half day. Book by phoning the ranger on 07747 640707, then pay on arrival at the ranger’s lodge. A season permit gives you fishing all year, cheaper boat hire and a place in the regular members’ matches.

The fishery is open all year, normally in daylight hours, and closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Park in the main car park at Gate 3. The crest of the reservoir has a tarmac path, there are accessible toilets, and the Oxford Sailing Club Waterside Café is on site. You need an Environment Agency rod licence.
