About Half Moon Inn

The Half Moon Inn is a sixteenth century, Grade II listed fishing inn in the Devon village of Sheepwash, a short walk from the River Torridge. It describes itself as one of the few remaining fishing inns in Devon, and has exclusive fishing on 7 miles of the river for salmon, sea trout and brown trout.

Fishing runs from 1 March to 30 September, and day tickets are sold to residents and non-residents alike. The inn’s published 2025 charges are £45 a day or £35 a half day for salmon, £35 a day for sea trout, and £25 a day for brown trout, or £15 after 5pm. The bar manager and the inn’s resident river expert will book you in and can help with advice on the day.

The expert is a Sheepwash resident awarded an MBE, who has fished the Torridge since he was six, founded the Torridge Rivers Association and posts regular fishing reports on the inn’s site. The inn also has eighteen rooms and offers fish and stay packages, so you can fish and sleep in the same place.

You'll be shown to your beat, given any local rules specific to that stretch, and told about parking, facilities, and the finish time. Carry your EA rod licence and booking confirmation at all times.
