About Moorhen Trout Fishery

Moorhen Trout Fishery is a family-run stillwater at Warnford in Hampshire’s Meon Valley, inside the South Downs National Park and beside the River Meon. The lake is three acres, spring-fed, and holds stocked rainbow and brown trout.

Fishing is catch and keep, sold by the fish rather than by the day: a single fish costs £30, rising to £62 for four, with ten and twenty-fish tickets at £185 and £295 for anglers who want to fish more than once. Juniors under 16 pay £10 less on the one and two-fish tickets, and extra fish beyond four cost £15 each. If you do not reach your ticket’s limit on the day, Moorhen’s credit system lets you come back and carry on for £15, valid for a year, and any fish under 2lb is covered by a replacement guarantee.

Beginners can book a Fly Fishing Introduction: a four-hour, one-to-one lesson with rod hire and a two-fish ticket included, for £120. Rod and tackle hire alone is £15. The on-site shop stocks Greys and Snowbee tackle, and free tea and coffee are available throughout the day. Moorhen runs a calendar of competitions through the year and takes group bookings of ten or more for exclusive use of the lake.

The fishery is open seven days a week, year-round, aside from advertised closures for maintenance, club bookings and competitions. Dogs are not permitted on site.
