About The Arundell
The Arundell, formerly the Arundell Arms, is a fishing hotel in Lifton, Devon, and has long been known as one of the best fly fishing schools in the country. Its 22 miles of wild fly fishing cover the Tamar and four of its tributaries, from wide open water to narrow, hard to reach streams, for wild brown trout, sea trout (especially at night) and grayling.
Day tickets for the rivers run from £25 to £45 for a mile long private beat, depending on the beat, and the hotel’s fishing shop sells tackle and equipment. The Arundell also owns Tinhay Lake, listed here as its own water, and runs saltwater fly fishing for sea bass and mullet with guides from May to early December.
Tuition is a big part of the business. There are two professional fly fishing instructors, with other local guides available, and courses for beginners and for more advanced anglers run through the year. The Arundell also sells tickets for the Westcountry Angling Passport’s Dartmoor water.
