About The Coniston Fishery

The Coniston Fishery is a 24-acre lake on the Coniston estate at Coniston Cold, near Skipton, stocked with rainbow and wild brown trout averaging over 2lb. The lake is part of the Coniston estate and hotel, and the fishing runs from 1 April to 31 October.

You can fish from the bank or hire a boat. Two new fishing platforms have been built to make some of the more productive water easier to reach, and the boats are suited to loch-style fishing. Tickets are full day, half day or evening, and boat hire is listed at £20 for non-members and £15 for members. The hotel suggests a 9 to 10ft rod with a 5 to 8 weight line, floating or with a midge tip, and flies such as hoppers, buzzers, damsels, hare’s ears and Princes.

Every angler needs their own rod licence and the number is asked for when you buy a ticket. Life preservers are available free from reception. The hotel also sells annual membership.

FAQ

The Coniston Fishery FAQs

Common questions about The Coniston Fishery and its beats, answered in one place.

01What are the opening hours for The Coniston Fishery?
Opening hours are listed in the Contact Information section on the The Coniston Fishery page. Many chalk stream fisheries operate from first light to dusk — confirm exact hours with the fishery when you book.
02Does The Coniston Fishery offer accommodation?
The Coniston Fishery does not currently list on-site accommodation. The surrounding area has a range of options — the fishery can often suggest somewhere local when you book.
03Can I buy a multi-day pass or season permit?
The Coniston Fishery offers both day tickets and season membership — day tickets suit a single visit, while a membership gives regular access throughout the season. Contact the fishery for current prices.
04Are beginners or less experienced anglers welcome?
Chalk stream fishing can be technically demanding, but The Coniston Fishery has beats that range in difficulty. If you're new to dry fly fishing, mention it when you book and the keeper can point you to the most forgiving water.
05Is the fishery suitable for anglers with mobility difficulties?
Some beats at The Coniston Fishery have flat bank access that may suit anglers with limited mobility. Check the individual beat pages — those with disabled access are marked clearly. It's always worth calling ahead so they can make any practical arrangements.
06What should I expect when I arrive?
On arrival at The Coniston Fishery, report to the fishery office or meet the keeper as instructed when you booked. You'll be shown to your beat, given any local rules specific to that stretch, and told about parking, facilities, and the finish time. Carry your EA rod licence and booking confirmation at all times.
07 Is club water available, or is it day ticket only?
The Coniston Fishery offers season membership rather than formal club arrangements — check the fishery page for details or contact them directly about the current season.
