Blakewell’s lake lies at Muddiford, a small valley just outside Barnstaple in North Devon, fed by spring water off Exmoor rather than by any river. It has varying depths, with bays, peninsulas and margins that give the trout plenty of places to hold and feed, and is kept clear of the bank so beginners have room for an easy back cast.
The lake is stocked with rainbow and brown trout and fished fly only. It is run as a keep fishery, not catch and release, and tickets are sold by the fish, from two fish up to six, with a junior ticket also offered. Check the current price when you book.
Fishing is bank only, all year round, seven days a week, sunrise to sunset, except Christmas Day. An Environment Agency rod licence is required.
