Fishing methods
Churn at North Cerney is the upper of the Cotswold Flyfishers’ two sections of the River Churn. The Churn rises at Seven Springs, south of Cheltenham, and is the club’s most westerly trout fishing. The club has around four miles of it, split into an upper section around North Cerney and a lower section near Siddington. It generally runs clear, mostly fed by limestone, with a good stock of wild trout and a good mayfly hatch. It is a small stream and the fish are not huge, so the club suggests a brook rod of 7’6” at most with a 2 to 4 weight line. Waders help in places.
Cotswold Flyfishers water is for members only. The club does not issue day tickets or temporary memberships, and full membership was £660 for the 2026 season plus a non-returnable £187 registration fee. All the club’s wild trout waters are fished catch and release with barbless hooks. If you are thinking of joining, the club’s endorsed guides run taster days on some of its waters.
